3 Things I Do With a One Year Old Who’s Fussy Despite All His Basic Needs Being Met

When I first brought Poppy home from the hospital, every time he cried, I did the same routine.
Change diaper, vasaline on his undercarriage, new diaper, gas relief (bicycle his legs, gas drops, etc), offer him food, burp him, hold him.
I knew that it would cut down on my anxiety to have a plan for anytime he cried. My therapist taught me that choices and indecision are anxiety’s best friends.
The routine worked well but as he’s gotten older, his needs and desires have become more complex. Sometimes he’s fussy because he’s just fussy. Toddlers are gonna toddle. 3 things I try, mostly in the evenings, that work well.
Get him outside - now that he can walk and it’s spring, I’ll just leave the back door open and he can come and go from the house to the fenced in yard.
Get on the floor and play with him. I try to pick a toy he hasn’t paid attention to recently.
Dance Party - I have an Alexa/Echo and I usually just play Taylor Swift or Beyoncé. It seems to distract and entertain him for awhile.
Honestly, most nights we do all 3 of these and then it’s dinner, bath, and bed.
P.S. This toy is awesome for my one year old. It was a gift from a friend for his birthday.
